What does AI governance in Southern Africa look like? Or, better yet, what policy approaches and tools do we need to address the challenges and opportunities AI poses for Africa?

In collaboration with Lawyers Hub and University of Cape Town, Research ICT Africa is hosting a two-day summer school on AI policy.

If you're a policymaker looking for an intensive and informative AI policy session, this is for you. The session will consolidate learnings across the hosting organisations, with a particular focus on shaping a shared understanding of just, equitable and sustainable AI futures. This work will be further contextualised for the continent, focusing on the realities of country-specific national AI strategies, recent developments in regional technology policy, and a deeper socio-political consideration of current power asymmetries between the Global North and the Global South.

This is an offering by the RIA School of Digital and Data Futures, a selection of coursework developed to repurpose digital research into practical policy tools for Africans. More information to come on our exciting selection of opportunities.
