The Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Mohammed Adam Sukparu, has highlighted Ghana’s potential and human capacity in artificial intelligence and technology.

According to him, it is time to stop importing technology and innovations and instead focus on homegrown solutions.

Speaking at the Africa Marketing Confederation Conference in Accra on August 20, 2025, Sukparu said, "It is time we stop consuming imported technologies and look within so that we can empower our own in ICT. And so this is the time for us to develop our human capital. When we develop human capital within Ghana, we have IT experts in this country capable of creating more technologies that will help transform our nation and create more jobs."

The deputy minister emphasised that the government’s drive is to create more digital centres to support ICT training for children from basic school, nurturing the next generation of IT professionals.

"We should not depend on imported technology. We should rather look within. When you talk about infrastructure, we have it, and we have the human capital. Across all regional sectors, ICT centres are being built. If we make good use of them and equip them properly, we should be able to train more IT professionals who can develop more apps," he told journalists. Sukparu also reiterated that the ministry plans to present 15 new laws on digital technology and innovations to Parliament when it resumes.
