A senior lecturer at the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Jeffrey Nii Armah Aryee, has been appointed a senior fellow at the Microsoft AI Economy Institute (AIEI).
Dr. Jeffrey Nii Armah Aryee is the only African selected for this year’s global cohort, positioning him to bring perspectives from the continent into international conversations on artificial intelligence and its economic impact.
The AIEI, an initiative of the Microsoft AI for Good Lab, is a corporate think tank that brings together experts from academia, policy, and industry to explore the social and economic transformations being shaped by AI.

As part of his fellowship, Dr. Jeffrey Nii Armah Aryee will lead the “Revolutionizing Tertiary Education for Africa’s Thriving AI Economy and Workforce” (RetAIn) initiative. His research will focus on expanding inclusive access to AI education and preparing Africa’s workforce, with special attention to vulnerable and marginalized groups.
KNUST officials said his appointment highlights both Aryee’s commitment to innovation and the university’s role in advancing global research collaborations.
