Dr. Aurelia Ayisi
Biography:
Lecturer | Researcher | Gender & Digital Media Consultant Dr. Aurelia Ayisi is an esteemed academic and researcher specialising in communication studies, with a particular emphasis on digital media, gender and communication, and media literacy. She is a lecturer at the University of Ghana, teaching courses in digital communication, media and information literacy, and gender and communication. Dr Ayisi holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Ghana and a Master's and PhD degree in Media and Cultural Studies, both from the UK. Her research critically explores the intersection of digital media, AI in communication, and gender representation. She has contributed extensively to scholarship and policy discussions on media literacy, digital security, gender-sensitive reporting, and the evolving role of AI in communication ecosystems. Dr. Ayisi has led and collaborated on major research and training projects funded by international organisations, including UNESCO, Freedom House, and the Wellcome Trust. Notably, she co-led a UNESCO-funded project that trained journalists across Ghana in fact-checking and information verification, and she has been a consultant for organisations working to combat online misinformation, hate speech, and technologyfacilitated gender-based violence. Beyond academia, Dr. Ayisi is a consultant and trainer, working with media professionals, civil society organisations, and policymakers to advance gender equity in media and communication. She has facilitated gender-sensitive reporting workshops, women empowerment programs, and mentorship initiatives for female journalists in Ghana and beyond. She has also presented at international conferences and authored several publications on media representation, digital culture, and AI in education and communication.
